As an instagrammer and influencer I was recently invited by Visit Maine to go during the most beautiful time of year: autumn. During autumn Maine becomes a magical wonderland boasting some of the world’s most beautiful landscapes, scenery and autumn foliage. It becomes an instagrammers paradise and to this date is one of my favourite trips ever. It was not only filled with beautiful colourful landscapes but also delicious food, and tons of culture.
The Bold Coast specifically showed the “true colours” of Maine & it truly was the most “instagrammable” autumn road trip, I say that because we literally stopped at least 8 times on our way up the coast to take photos and enjoy the scenery/leaf-peep. I had never experienced autumn or a road trip that was so magical.
Below is my list of Maine Road-Trip Autumn Musts.
GRAB your girl gang:
Any great road trip starts with great company, thankfully for our trip up the Bold Coast I was in amazing company.
GRAB the best snacks:
Maine has so many great local places it’s hard to pick just a few to find your favourite road trip snacks. My personal favourite local spots were: Coastal Maine Popcorn Co. & The Holy Donut!
Take a FULL day to drive:
When I say take a full day I mean it! The beautiful winding drive up the coast in reality takes about 4 hours but I recommend starting early so you can take your time, rest and stop a bit. We found beautiful winding rivers, lakes, cute little towns and gorgeous foliage the whole way there. For once it wasn’t a road trip I wanted to rush through.
STAY in Lubec:
We were lucky enough to make one of the last weekends that the town of Lubec was still open, it’s tiny but it’s also the most eastern town of the U.S.A. I could literally see Canada from my room.
The locals were beyond lovely and every morning we were able to catch a gorgeous sunrise, i recommend visiting Lubec anytime from May-October as that is their main tourist season.
CHASE a sunrise:
Last but definitely not least I recommend chasing a sunrise, for me this was one of my favourite parts of the road trip.
We got up early almost every morning just so we could see the sunrise. With the beautiful scenery and all the fall colours all of Maine seemed to radiate cotton candy colours. They were stunning and well worth the bright and early wake up call!
